Her next project was founding a center that would gather records on massacres, disappearances and other human rights violations that had occurred over the past decades. In November, one of the guerrillas that kidnapped her in 2002, Colombian journalist Jorge Torres Victoria, is killed during a military operation near Bogotá.In 2000 she is named Person of the Year by "Reader's Digest" for having "helped to open the country’s eyes," and in 2001 she received a Human Rights Award from Harvard University. In 2002 Betancourt was invited by French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin to lecture at the French National Assembly.In 2002 Ingrid Betancourt was kidnapped from her home by members of Colombian guerrilla group Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC).
